Medieval castle "Le Cheylard"

Parking   Monuments Historiques

Perched 600m above sea level, at the crossroads of the current departments of Gard, Lozère and Ardèche, the Cheylard Castel dominates a former Middle Age fortifications network, Val Cezarencha.

From the square tower to the round tower, this castle illustrates the Cevennes castrale evolution from the Middle Ages (XII) to the Renaissance (XVII).

Site registered historic monument, it houses within its walls a medieval hamlet with farm, dovecote, sheepfold clède chapel.

Inhabited continuously from the Middle Ages until today, it is the subject of scientific research and restorations.
It is also the setting for film shoots.
